Mustache 1st Birthday Bash

The sweet, handsome birthday boy

My sweet nephew turned one in September, and it has taken me until now to take the time to edit, post pics, and give this post the props it deserves. The theme of this particular party was "Mustache Bash!" I mean, does it get more amazeballs than that?!?! Here are some handmade highlights from the partay-hey!

Here's the cutie patootie birthday boy, himself in his "throne." My sissybabes ordered his onesie (complete with mustache tie on the front and "Well, if you (mustache) I'm ONE!" on the back) from Etsy.

Royce also had a mustache-shaped cake that he (obviously, from the picture just below) made quick work on chowing down!

The rest of the guests got to nosh on cupcakes embellished with...you guessed it...mustaches, courtesy of my Cricut machine and the "Mustaches and Glasses" cartridge and toothpicks

My sister had been dying to purchase personalized M&M's and couldn't resist buying them for her little man's big day. If you look closely, you will see that the candies are labeled with a mustache, the phrase "Royce is ONE!!!" and his sweet little face! You KNOW you're big time when your face is on candy, am I right???

This might have been my favorite mustache-ification of this party. We used a contraption found online called a "Crustache," which cuts one sandwich into three superb mustache shapes. Who woulda thunk? In the case of Royce's party, the little ones were able to enjoy their ham & cheese and pb&j sammies in style!

Using mustache duct tape (man, I love that stuff), water bottles were wrapped to match the theme

My crazy aunts, mama, and grandparents participating in Photo Booth funsies

Certainly, the most entertaining portion of the party was the photo booth. Mustaches and other assorted props were displayed for people to use and pose for the camera that had been set up on a tripod. Good times!!!

Even my little munchkin was not immune to mustachery!

Cricut users...did you know???

Ok, so maybe pregnancy and now being a mommy has "hidden me under a rock" all this time, but I totally just discovered today that the cricut website, www.cricut.com/craftroom/ has a Craft Room, in which users can, not only create projects by hooking up their machines to their computers and adjust objects on existing Cricut cartridges in a variety of ways, but also choose from a library of digital images that can be downloaded and edited and cut. I downloaded the "Mustaches and Glasses" images for my nephew Royce's 1st birthday party, which includes 6 types of mustaches and 3 types of glasses, for $1.99. This girl is PUMPED to start cranking out the mustaches to decorate balloons, straws, photo booth props, and who knows what else for Royce's "Mustache Bash!" Thank you, good people of Cricut!

Cricut Vinyl Big Sister/Little Sister T Shirts

Allow me to begin this blog by stating that I LOVE MY CRICUT MACHINE!!! While I have the most basic version that Cricut offers, I am astounded by how many options this wonderful contraption gives me. I recently purchased adhesive vinyl to be used with my Cricut. While I can't even imagine how many new craft options this will now give me, I decided that my first project with the vinyl would be to make temporarily decorated t shirts to celebrate our upcoming arrival. Since our first "baby" has always been our dog (and I assure you, we don't actually treat our dog like she's a human, but we do love her to death and can't imagine life without her), we constantly joke that her "little sister" is on her way. As someone always looking for a new craft project, as well as a photo op, I went ahead and purchased a large, pink t shirt at my local dollar store and got out a matching pink onesie that we had already gotten for baby. Using the "Alphalicious" Cricut cartridge, I cut the phrases "Big Sister" and "Little Sister" out and adhered them accordingly to the t-shirt (yes, for the dog to wear) and onesie. Since we are just using them for a photo, we can simply remove the vinyl letters when we are done and reuse the shirts. Stay tuned for pics of the "sisters"!!!

Laundry Room Sign

Before moving into our new house, I used my spring break to binge on craft projects. Using the Cricut machine (which I ADORE) I got for Christmas, I cut letters to spell the word “LAUNDRY” and placed them the way I wanted them on a blank sign I purchased at a dollar store years ago and painted white using two coats of acrylic paint. In retrospect, I would NOT have glued the letters onto the sign using scrapbooking tape as I did, because it was a HUGE pain to take the letters off after painting over them. I would suggest using simple Scotch tape rolled up and placed on the backs of each of the letters as “flatly” as possible. Paint over the letters (carefully) and sign completely using 2 coats of another color acrylic paint (I used a mint green) and let dry. Once dry, carefully peel off the letters to reveal the color underneath of the top coats. Using a glue gun, place three clothespins (I painted mine white, but you wouldn’t necessarily need to do the same) along the bottom of the sign to use for un-matched socks or to hold dryer sheets. Spray a clear acrylic lacquer over the entire sign and clothespins and let dry. Using a 24” ribbon, thread each side of the ribbon into the holes in the sign and tie bows on each side for hanging.
