Mustache 1st Birthday Bash

The sweet, handsome birthday boy

My sweet nephew turned one in September, and it has taken me until now to take the time to edit, post pics, and give this post the props it deserves. The theme of this particular party was "Mustache Bash!" I mean, does it get more amazeballs than that?!?! Here are some handmade highlights from the partay-hey!

Here's the cutie patootie birthday boy, himself in his "throne." My sissybabes ordered his onesie (complete with mustache tie on the front and "Well, if you (mustache) I'm ONE!" on the back) from Etsy.

Royce also had a mustache-shaped cake that he (obviously, from the picture just below) made quick work on chowing down!

The rest of the guests got to nosh on cupcakes embellished with...you guessed it...mustaches, courtesy of my Cricut machine and the "Mustaches and Glasses" cartridge and toothpicks

My sister had been dying to purchase personalized M&M's and couldn't resist buying them for her little man's big day. If you look closely, you will see that the candies are labeled with a mustache, the phrase "Royce is ONE!!!" and his sweet little face! You KNOW you're big time when your face is on candy, am I right???

This might have been my favorite mustache-ification of this party. We used a contraption found online called a "Crustache," which cuts one sandwich into three superb mustache shapes. Who woulda thunk? In the case of Royce's party, the little ones were able to enjoy their ham & cheese and pb&j sammies in style!

Using mustache duct tape (man, I love that stuff), water bottles were wrapped to match the theme

My crazy aunts, mama, and grandparents participating in Photo Booth funsies

Certainly, the most entertaining portion of the party was the photo booth. Mustaches and other assorted props were displayed for people to use and pose for the camera that had been set up on a tripod. Good times!!!

Even my little munchkin was not immune to mustachery!

Mustache Duct Tape Journal

Here's a very simple project that requires three materials and takes about 10 minutes to complete.

Materials:

-Scissors
-Duct Tape (any design...How awesome is this mustache one?!?!?)
-journal (could be a blank journal like the one I used or one you'd like to re-cover)

Instructions:

1. Beginning on one edge of the journal, measure duct tape at a length just longer than the journal itself. Fold the excess tape onto the inside of the journal.
2. Repeat the process until reaching the spine of the journal.
3. Cover the spine of the journal with duct tape, cutting off any excess at the edges
4. Repeat steps 1 and 2 on the opposite side of the journal

Make Your Own Mustache Necklace

Mustache necklace
Yes, I am well aware that I have created at least two other posts involving the use of a mustache or multiple mustaches (which I can't promise won't get worse in the upcoming months, as my nephew's first birthday theme is "Mustache Bash"), but come on....they're just so much fun, and I will never be able to grow my own, so I must find creative ways to use them artificially!

This particular necklace is easy to make if you have some basic, jewelry-making knowledge. In fact, I found the hardest part to be finding the awesome mustache pendant (for those of you interested, this one was discovered at Hobby Lobby), but now that you know where to find it, this should be smooth sailing!

Materials:

-4 split rings
-lobster clasp
-chain link (size and style is your choice)
-mustache pendant
-wire cutter
-needle nosed pliers

Steps:

1. Wrap chain around neck and use wire cutters to cut on each side according to how far down you wish the pendant to lay
2. Using needle nosed pliers, open a split ring and put through one end of the open chain
3. While still attached to the chain, place the split ring through one hole of the pendant and close the split ring with pliers
4. Repeat steps 2-3 on the opposing side of the chain
5. Using wire cutters, cut in the middle of the chain opposite the pendant (If necklace is long enough, clasp may not be necessary and you can skip this step altogether). Attach one split ring to one side of the open chain and a split ring with lobster clasp on the opposing side.

Decorate Your Own Mustache Mugs

This is one of my absolute favorite craft projects and perfect for the gift recipient with a great sense of humor! I used "Google Images" to look up pictures of mustaches for inspiration. Using a black, ceramic marker, I drew and colored a different type of mustache at the top of each mug. After I was satisfied with my masterpieces, I set my oven to 275 degrees and placed the mugs into the oven for 45 minutes to set the marker and avoid smudging. I will not say who the recipient of this gift could potentially be, but I will say that they are in for a very good time once they receive them!

Cutest litte guinea pig I ever did see!

The only thing more fun than making crafts?!?!?! Watching the recipients of the crafts put them to great (and in this case, adorable) use! Here are two pictures of my precious nephew, Royce modeling two of my creations. How cute is he?????

Super Simple Mustache Pacifier

My sister modeling her future baby boy's mustachifier
Since I seem to be in the midst of a pacifier obsession, I might as well use this project as my next blog post! I simply cut a mustache shape out of hardened black felt and used a glue gun to attach it to the front of a pacifier. Do I think my future nephew will use this binky for its actual purpose on a regular basis? Probably not! Do I think he will look super FLY when he does use it? ABSOLUTELY!!!

Felt Quiet Book-Part 1

I've been dying to post this craft project, but seeing as how one of these items is a baby shower gift for my sister, I had to wait until the baby shower actually occurred before I posted. Because the baby shower is today at 2:00.
I found pictures of felt quiet books online and thought they were absolutely the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Of course, I had to make one (or, what I thought would be one until I got on a roll and ended up completing a second one in the process). I used 8.5x11 felt sheets for the pages and cover of the book  and scraps of felt that I have been stock-piling from other projects for the page details and movable pieces. While I cut out some of the felt pieces myself, I also printed clip art images onto iron-on transfers for the pieces that required additional details, as my artistic abilities are limited, and ironed them onto pieces of felt. I cut out rectangular pieces of felt and put Tacky glue around the sides to paste to the felt pages to the left of each corresponding page, forming a pocket for storage of movable pieces.
After everything was glued down and cut out, I sewed all of the pages together to bind the book and added an iron-on transfer to the cover with the book’s title and author (moi!).  My sister is having a children’s book themed baby shower, so I am super excited to give her one of the quiet books, along with a few other children’s books I love (as a teacher, I am officially and completely obsessed with children’s books). The second quiet book will go to my unbelievably adorable and sweet niece, Camdyn, who is almost 9 months old. While neither book recipient will be able to use the book independently for a little while, I know that they will grow to appreciate and love them (and hopefully use them to give their parents a little peace and quiet while out and about as an added bonus
Here are pictures of the second quiet book. Tomorrow, I will post pictures of the quiet book that will officially be my sister's in just a short while.
