Revamped-Letter Signs to Potluck Labels

Ever go to a potluck dinner where you look at one of the gazillion delicious looking casseroles and say to your husband or friend "What do you think is in that?" I can't even imagine how treacherous these types of meals could be to those with food allergies. How helpful would it be if each bit of deliciousness was labeled appropriately?

Have no fear, the crazy craft lady is here...

I recently purchased a few 5x7" wood plaques at my local thrift store for $.50 each and decided to transform them into Potluck-friendly food displays. I simply sanded the sides and front of the plaques, sprayed two coats of chalkboard paint on them and Voila! The options for these little free-standing plaques are endless---price displays at craft fairs, tic-tac-toe or Pictionary boards for on the go games, scoreboards for sporting events...what else can you come up with???

 

Thrift Store Table Revamped

In my attempt to begin sitting on my front porch and getting to know my neighbors better (I have a fully fenced-in backyard that I consider my happy place, so I typically spend my summers there), I thought I would redec a thrift store table I had recently picked up, in the hopes that it would become my morning coffee-sipping space. I started by unscrewing each of the table legs from the tabletop and spray painting them with two coats ofoff-white using Krylon indoor/outdoor paint. I then spray painted the tabletop hunter green.

After the tabletop was completely dry, I placed pieces of painters tape from one end of the tabletop to another and continued to overlap them randomly. Using the same off-white, spray paint as on the table legs, I painted two coats over the tape. Once the tabletop had dried, I removed the painter's tape to reveal a pretty nifty design. After some brief touch ups to areas that looked a litte funky, I reconnected the legs to the tabletop and Voila...I present you my morning coffee spot!

Revamped-Mug stand to jewelry-holder

                

I currently can't get enough of thrift stores and finding items on the cheap to makeover into items that are fun and functional! This past week, I found a mug holder at my local thrift shop in the ugliest color of green I have ever seen! I've been working very hard lately to see past ugly colors and marks on products like this one, so after determining that the item itself was in great shape and was able to be revamped, I paid my $.99 and brought that bad boy home with me, determined to turn it into a bracelet holder using chalkboard paint (which, I absolutely love and encourage any crafter to purchase and have on hand at all times!). I sanded it, sprayed two coats of chalkboard paint on it, let it dry and Voila! I plan to keep this on my nightstand to hold all of my bracelets, but I may also use it in the future for craft shows to display bracelets I've made, along with their prices, which can be easily labeled with chalk! Yaaay for old items made new again (and for very little moolah, no less)!
