St. Patty's Day Mason Jar Glass

What is it about Mason jars that makes me feel as though I cannot ever have too many??? Gah, I absolutely love them and all of the possibilities they provide! Vases, lamps, light fixtures, home decor, salad storers, coffee makers (ok, that last one may have been a bit of an embellishment, but its only a matter of time before someone figures it out...) you name it, it can be made using a mason jar! I'm completely obsessed! In fact, I performed a literal happy dance in the middle of Hobby Lobby when I saw that they sold Daisy lid inserts. I have been eyeing them up online for months but was never willing to pay the ridiculous shipping prices, so you can imagine my craft nerd excitement... Anywho, here's how I transformed a Mason jar into a Gold Shamrock Drink Holder, perfect for upcoming St. Patty's Day festivities:

Materials:

-Mason jar
-Martha Stewart glass paint in gold metallic
-foam paintbrush
-contact paper
-scissors
-Mason jar daisy lid insert
-paper straw
Instructions:

1. Cut out a shamrock shape out of contact paper (I made a cardstock template first using the old four heart shapes connected and a stem trick from 3rd grade art class)

2. Remove adhesive backing from contact paper and place on Mason jar
3. Using a foam brush, paint the Mason jar entirely with glass paint (I ended up painting 3 coats total)
4. After paint dries completely, carefully peel off shamrock shape
5. Pour your favorite drink (preferably a green one), daisy insert and cute paper straw into Mason jar and enjoy!!!

Claire was a huge fan of our green lemonade, but these glasses could certainly feature any adult beverage to celebrate the occasion, as well!

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!!!!!

Peek-A-Boo Heart Mason Jar

Have you tried the Martha Stewart glass paint yet? I recently had the opportunity to try it out for myself to decorate this peek-a-boo heart, mason jar, and it rocked! Here's how I did it...
.
Materials:

-Mason jar
-Martha Stewart glass paint (I bought the "Fine Glitter-Translucent" in "Copper," but the options are insanely unlimited!)
-foam brush
-contact paper
-scissors
-washi tape
-red burlap or other fabric
-cardstock
-printer
-cinnamon candies
-ribbon
-scalloped scissors
Directions:

1. Cut a heart shape out of contact paper. Peel off paper backing and place flat onto mason jar.
2. Use foam brush to cover jar entirely with paint (use up and down strokes for consistency, as the paint is very translucent and everything shows up!) I painted three coats total to get the look I wanted.
3. After paint is completely dry, carefully peel off contact paper
4. Place red, washi tape around ring of mason jar
5. Place a 4"x4" piece of burlap or fabric over jar lid and cut around the lid to make a circle a little larger than the lid itself.
6. Place cinnamon candies in jar for added Valentine-y color
7. Place burlap covered lid onto the mason jar and screw on rin
8. Print out a cute label like THIS ONE onto cardstock, cut out with fancy scissors and tie it around the jar using curling ribbon.
Done-skis! Claire and I will be passing these out to our super, awesome neighbors to remind them they are loved and admired! Can't wait!!!

Mason Jar and Candlestick Apothecary Jar

I find apothecary jars so appealing and want to have one (or ten!) of my own. Unfortunately, their prices…not so appealing! I found a picture online of an “apothecary jar” made out of a mason jar, a candlestick holder, and a glass door knob, and I immediately knew I had to try it. Using E6000 glue (an awesome craft glue I have recently discovered), I placed the glue around the rim of the candlestick holder ($1 at the Dollar Tree)  and glued it to the bottom of the mason jar ($1.50 at my local craft store). After I took the screw out of the glass doorknob ($2 at Michael’s), I glued it to the center of the mason jar lid and let both glued items dry overnight. After everything dried, I put it all together and Voila!!! The real challenge of this project turned out to be what I would put in them. I finally decided I would use it to store Q-tips on the window ledge of the bathroom. This may not be its permanent use, but it definitely works for now!
